JAMMU, July 18: A meeting of the Executive Committee of the Kashmiri Pandit Sabha Jammu was held to take stock of the situation arising out of the prolonged state of unrest in the Valley that has consumed more than 40 human lives and has caused injuries to more than 3000 people including security forces out of whom more than 300 have suffered grievous injury.
The Sabha felt that in order to bring back normalcy in the Valley, the State Government should take people from different shades of polity and society on board by calling an all- party meeting to bring a halt to this present cycle of death and destruction which has wreaked havoc with the Valley once again. This has heaped misery on not only Kashmiris including Pandits but also on the peaceful pilgrims who are here to perform the holy Amarnath Ji Yatra. In the aftermath of the killing of Burhan Wani many from the mainstream and separatist leadership by their acts of omission and commission, whether inadvertently or by design have added fuel to the fire. At a time, when the efforts by one and all should have been to douse the fire they not only fomented it further by making insensitive statements which worsened the situation but have also been castigating the security forces for allegedly using excessive force.
During the last six years since the PM package employees have joined their jobs in the Valley, never has the ire against them been so vehemently expressed than it was this time when a direct attack with stones etc. was launched in the dead of night on their camp by miscreants at the behest of anti-national forces which created panic not only within the camp but also among the community at other places throughout the country, the Sabha said. Most of the package employees have left the Valley and have come down to Jammu and are reluctant to go back unless they have solid assurance for their security. The Sabha feels that the local administrative establishment failed to anticipate the severity of a backlash and therefore were caught unawares. Even the measures which they took to control the backlash were inadequate initially. The Sabha appealed Mehbooba Mufti Govt. to not only provide fool proof security to the package employees but also make efforts to create a congenial environment that of trust and confidence by engaging with the civil society as well so that a sense of security returns at the earliest. The members also condemned the dastardly attack on Ex-MLA Khalil Bhand (PDP) who has suffered grievous injuries.
The meeting was attended by A. K. Braroo, Ashwani Koul, S. L. Bhagati, G. J. Kampasi, . Ashok Khar, B. L. Tickoo, Subash Dhar, J. L. Zutshi, Dr. Ashok Koul, R. L. Koul and others
