JAMMU, Aug 17: In continuation of interaction programme, with the displaced Pandits putting up in various parts of country on the issue of rehabilitation of the community, National Peace Movement (NPM) held an interactive session with displaced Pandits at Bangalore today.
The day-long session held at Kashmir Bhavan which was facilitated by Kashmiri Hindu Cultural Welfare Trust was attended by people of all age groups including women and youth.
The speakers exuding confidence to resettle the displaced Pandits in their native land in Kashmir, many speakers expressed their apprehensions about social and economic security which seems to be a far dream as of now. They were of the opinion that unless physical and economic security is guaranteed to those willing to return to their ancestral land, the exercise undertaken by the successive Central and State Governments would not yield results.
The youth of the community were more expressive in their stand that KPs have inalienable right on the land of Kashyap Reshi but at the same time feared their settlement in the absence of job opportunities. Some of them pointed out the continued disturbances in the Valley on the one or the other pretext curtailing the free movement of people in a free democratic set up.
The leaders accused the present and as well as the former Union Governments for taking half hearted measures to mitigate the miseries of KPs who are leading an exploited life for last over 26 years. They also stressed on introspection among community leaders social issues facing the community and urged the community leadership to come under one banner.
The social and economic security of the KP youth, abrogation of special status to J&K, confidence building measures and many other issues also came for discussion.
The NPM was led by M K Kaul its president and M K Bangroo. KHCWT Bangalore assured all support to NPM.
