KPs show concern over prolonged exile

JAMMU, June 19: In order to highlight the issues of displaced Kashmiri Pandits especially their honorable and dignified rehabilitation in Kashmir Valley in accordance to their geo-political aspirations, JK Thinkers Forum (JKTF) today organised a virtual meeting with well known KP activist Veer Khar stationed at New Zealand.
The meeting was chaired by Prof. GK Mujoo, a senior community leader.
The participants expressed deep disappointment over the prolonged exile endured by the community and the repeated failure of successive governments to provide adequate measures for their rehabilitation. The emotional and psychological impact of living away from their land was emphasized, highlighting the necessity of addressing this issue urgently.
Kuldeep Kashmiri, president of the JK Thinkers Form, underscored the need for the Government of India (GOI) to immediately cease testing the patience of Kashmiri Pandits. He urged the GOI to devise and implement a comprehensive plan that effectively addresses the alarming problems faced by the community. Furthermore, he emphasized that the recent abrogation of special status would prove futile if the GOI fails to successfully rehabilitate Pandits in the Kashmir. He criticised the imposition of policies on the people of Jammu and Kashmir without adequately extending the intended benefits of this historic move.
Shiban Koul, a scholar shed light on potential avenues for the successful rehabilitation of KPs in the Valley and emphasized the need for the Government of India to genuinely consider these possibilities, taking into account the historical migration patterns of Kashmiri Pandits from the Valley.
Mohan Lal Raina, a senior community activist highlighted the plight of community members who face exploitation even in obtaining basic rations. He demanded urgent action and intervention to protect the rights and dignity of the community.
Ravinder Koul, president of the Overaged Unemployed Relief Holders, highlighted the difficulties faced by community members who depend on minimal financial assistance.
Veer Khar, a well known socio political activist who was the guest of honour stressed on the establishment of self-help groups within the Kashmiri Pandit community. He emphasized the importance of fostering unity, solidarity, and preparedness among these groups, ensuring their readiness to address any challenges or eventualities faced by the community. Khar assured everyone of the organization’s commitment to hold future meetings focused on community welfare, ensuring their well-being until a permanent solution is found.
