JAMMU, Feb 19: Kranti Dal today strongly condemned the Transport Department and Regional Transport Office, Jammu for alleged harassment to the people by over charging of late fee even as the office networking was not functional for more than 45 days.
Talking to media persons, here today, Kranti Dal president Pritam Sharma said that Transport department failed to restore the networking service for more than 45 days and now they are charging late fees from those who attended office on scheduled dates but could not get the work done. “For those days when the networking services were not in working condition, the Government must waive off the late fees in every aspect as the department was at fault and not the applicant,” he added.
Also criticizing the Transport Department for hiking the fee in respect of learning license and driving license, Pritam Sharma said it was surprising that Government has hiked fee from Rs 60 to Rs 350 in respect of learning driving license and Rs 250 to Rs 1000 in respect of driving license, which is sheer violation of hiking process. He said Government should have hike fees upto 20 percent instead of 200 percent and the same should be rolled back now.
Questioning the incomplete system of online process in RTO office, Jammu, he said that people have to put double efforts for applying for learning and driving licenses. “First the applicant has to visit cyber café for filling the form online and then visit RTO office to deposit the fees, which itself is a mockery of system and moreover applicants after depositing fee are not getting receipt, which creates doubt and confusion,” he said.
Pritam Sharma said that it was the failure of the State Government that vacant posts in RTO are not being fulfilled. He ridiculed the BJP slogans of good governance and alleged that the Coalition Government has utterly failed to address the issues of common man of the State.
