Kshatriya Mahasabha highlights demands

JAMMU, Jan 15: The J&K unit of Akhil Bharatiya Kshatriya Maha Sabha (ABKMS) today highlighted their demands and warned of vigorous struggle in case they are ignored.
While addressing a press conference here at Press Club, Ravi Singh Slathia, president, ABKMS, J&K unit, along with other members of the working committee, said that the resolutions adopted by the Mahasabha during its recently held one day convention have been submitted to Governor NN Vohra.
Slathia said Mahasabha feels that time has come to review the caste based national reservation policy, which should be based on economic criteria instead of caste, adding the Kashtriya Rajputs deserve it the most because of their poor economic conditions.
Welcoming Prime Minister’s “Stand Up India” loan scheme to women entrepreneurs of SC/ST, he said that Maha Sabha demands extension of loans scheme to Rajput women also, especially the widows of martyrs, who are in great number throughout India.
Lauding the vision, initiative and bravery of Maharaja Gulab Singh who created this unique and a composite state, he said that Mahasabha demands that a Life size Statue of Maharaja Gulab Singh be installed at Kunjwani Chowk Jammu as already committed by the Government. Besides, Jammu University be named after him and his birthday viz 21 October (1792) be declared as State holiday.
Slathia further said that Mahasabha demands restoration and conservation of Dogra Heritage, issuance of white paper on their restoration plan and action taken against the authorities responsible for demolishing Darbar-e-Aam.
The other demands of the Mahasabha includes declaration of State holiday on October 26, the day on which Maharaja Hari Singh had declared Accession of J&K to India; stoppage of Darbar move; State Subject status to the refugees of 1947, 65, 71 and the Dogra migrants and their rehabilitation at par with Kashmiri migrants; grant of martyr status to late Chamel Singh and the entitled benefits to his family; ST status for Muslim Rajputs, etc.
