SRINAGAR, Jan 24: Two days after the Government promised a review of the results of first semester of 3-year degree courses of Kashmir University following the allegation of the discrepancies, students today said that authorities are blaming students to hide their mistakes.
On January 21, third semesters students of various university affiliated colleges of Kashmir University protested against the discrepancies in their first semester results.
Reacting to the protests the Government assured that the issue will be addressed within fifteen days.  Moreover, university released a statement wherein improper filling of Optical Mark Recognition sheets (OMR) were said to be the main reason behind failure of students.
The protesting students asked how invigilator of examinations did accept their wrongly filled OMR sheets. “The examiners sign the OMR sheets only after checking. It is their duty to check the OMR sheet carefully before signing. They have failed us,” a protester said, adding the authorities are hiding their mistakes by blaming students.
Farhan, a student, said  while explaining the reasons behind the failure of students the university authorities showed them  OMR sheets of ten students. “Out of the 10 OMR sheets that university provided us during an interactive session with the students 6 students were declared pass but they did not deserve. They were checked poorly, he said, adding the same OMR sheets were even attached with the statement of the university but after students questioned it the university pulled it down from their website.
Another student, Jameel Ahmad said they are unable to concentrate on their studies as the results have let them and their families down. “Everyone is blaming us as if we are criminals and not the students. We don’t want university to just pass us but to prepare the marks certificates as per the merit. We want justice,” he said.
