SRINAGAR, Aug 22: To increase students’ level of awareness and understanding about different fellowships offered by US in higher education, the Department of Students Welfare University of Kashmir organized an interactive session on “US-India Relations”.
Students and faculty members from KU and IUST interacted with Prof Walter Russell Mead, Prof of Foreign Affairs and Humanities at Bard College and Editor-at-large of the American Interest, Adele Rupee Deputy Public Affairs Officer at Bard College and Mandeep Kaur, All India Principal Program Advisor in the Public Affairs Section of the US Embassy in New Delhi.
While delivering a talk on ‘US-India Relations’ Prof Walter Russell highlighted the opportunities offered by the changing US-India relations and how it is going to benefit the stakeholders and particularly the people of the two countries in areas of trade and investment, defense and information technology, nuclear power and the most important being in the education sector.
Prof Russell said that both USA and India are amongst the most five important countries of the world and under the ever-changing dynamics in international relations.
Vice Chancellor University of Kashmir Prof Talat said that the University is open to such collaborations and has achieved a great success so far in signing MoUs with various international and national institutes of research.
On the occasion, students highlighted the difficulties faced by them while applying for various fellowships due to stringent VISA regime and laborious and tiresome formalities.
Dean Department of Students Welfare Prof Neelofar Khan said that the department will continue to organize such interactions in future as well which provide the students an opportunity to interact with renowned international experts and scholars.
