KU organizes Painting competition

SRINAGAR, Apr 24: To create awareness about the preservation of environment amongst the school children, Department of Geology and Geophysics and Students Welfare Department, University of Kashmir organised a Painting competition on ‘Environment’ here at varsity campus.
The painting competition was organised as a part of a week-long campaign on the eve of earth day, in which more than 35 students from various Government and private schools participated. The contest was held in the lawns of Gandhi Bhawan KU campus.
Prof Nilofar Khan, Dean students Welfare and Prof Shakeel A Rumshoo, coordinator, Earth Day celebrations interacted with the participating students and expressed satisfaction the way children are able to potray environment issues with brush.
During the day-long painting competition school children through their sketches portrayed the reckless exploitation of land and water resources in the region and the tremendous strain on the sustainability of earth resources.
The jury members were Niyaz Ahmad Mir, Technical Officer, Public Relations Centre, University of Kashmir, Mohd Yousuf Naqshbandi teacher from Tyndale Biscoe and Mallinson Girls High School and Rakesh Sharma, faculty member from faculty of Music and Fine, who evaluated the paintings.
