KU Professor arrested for beating wife

SRINAGAR, July 16: In a domestic violence case, a Kashmir University Professor was arrested by police on Tuesday after his in-laws registered a case against him complaining that he not only demanded dowry from his wife but also beat her ruthlessly.
The in-laws in their complaint alleged that Assistant Professor of Botany Department in Kashmir University, Lateef Ahmed Pir, beat his wife to pulp at Mirzabagh Complex of Varsity.
She informed her father, who lodged a complaint at Police Station Nigeen. Police arrested the accused professor.
The father-in-Law of the accused professor has alleged that he frequently used to demand dowry from his wife and even after meeting such demands, he beat her repeatedly.
“May be he (Lateef Ahmed Peer) was arrested in domestic violence case but I can’t comment on the matter as I don’t know anything about it,” Chief Proctor Kashmir University, Mohammad Afzal Zargar said.
A police official while confirming this incident said that the accused was arrested after his father-in-law lodged a complaint that Lateef Pir used to physically torture his wife.
