Srinagar, Feb 6: Kashmir University’s students of 3rd and 4th semester today demanded conduct of online examinations or be provided with relaxation in the syllabus if the University authorities are planning to hold the exams offline.
In a representation that the students have submitted to the University, they have stated that both the batches have suffered a huge loss academically, while as the students after joining the batches have hardly had a physical interaction.
They said that after attending the two semesters in the online mode of teaching, students had a very bad experience of understanding & learning their respective subject concepts.
“It was expected that the offline mode of teaching would be restored but the education sector could not be restored due to some partial genuine reasons,” the students said.
They said that according to the feedback provided by the Class Representatives of the varsity, it is noted that the syllabus of various (majority) departments was completed in January and others are likely to complete.
“But there is no confirmation of time and mode of examination, as some departments are looking for conducting offline exams without paying heed to the problems of students.”
The students said that while the KU focused on online mode of teaching, “but both students and teachers couldn’t cope up with the pace of online classes due to various reasons like poor internet connectivity, problems with doubt solving as it lacks face to face interaction, low audio-visual quality along with other issues,” the representation read.
The students said that as the online classes continued, students have already prepared themselves for online mode of examination and offline exams. “With the online teaching process being not less than a disaster for them and can also affect the overall percentage that may further make them suffer in any recruitment,” they said.
As per students, virtual feedback was taken from all the class representatives of end semester and it was mutually agreed upon to appear in the offline examination only if, it will be supplemented by some degree of reduction in the syllabus or increase of the choices in the question papers.
