SRINAGAR, Nov 8: To review the working of Allama Iqbal Library and its various allied units and divisions, a meeting of the Library Committee was held under the chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor Kashmir University Prof Talat Ahmad.
During the meeting various issues concerning the development of the Library, financial matters, infrastructure up-gradation, purchase of e-book portals and other issues including service to user community were discussed threadbare.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Talat Ahmad laid emphasis on making optimum and effective use of information technology in providing state-of-the-art services to the library users including users from the various satellite campuses of the University of Kashmir.
The Committee discussed various other issues including evolving a weeding policy for the library, Solar lighting for all the floors and renovation of the library building.
Dean Academic Affairs Prof AM Shah, DCDC Prof GM Shah, Registrar KU Prof Zaffar A Reishi, Deans of various faculties, Heads of the Departments of the University and other senior administrative officers of the University also attended the meeting.
Dr Ramesh C Gaur, University Librarian, Jawahar Lal Nehru University was also present in the meeting.
Prof Hamid Anwar Dhar, Ex-Controller of Examinations, University of Kashmir, Prof Wajih Ahmad Alvi, University Librarian, Islamic University of Science & Technology and Bashir Ahmad, University Librarian SKUAST-K also attended the meeting.
Earlier University Librarian Allama Iqbal Library Dr Abdul Majid Baba made a brief power point presentation about the various activities and services provided by the Library for the students, scholars and faculty members during which he also highlighted the future plans of the library.
