Kulgam Court awards 10 yrs rigorous imprisonment to 10 accused

Srinagar, June 30: A local court today awarded 10 years rigorous imprisonment to 10 accused persons involved in culpable homicide in 2009.
Principal Sessions judge Kulgam, Subash C Gupta after convicting the accused person  passed quantum of sentence  to  the accused persons with 10 years rigorous imprisonment for commission of culpable homicide and six month imprisonment of commission of offence causing hurt.
Court while passing the sentence took a lenient view on the accused persons as they have already faced six years trial and spent huge money on the litigation and said in the meantime they might have repented for the offence which they have committed.
“Reformation of a criminal shall be the primary goal of administration of criminal justice. Long period of imprisonment will serve many purposes. It serves   deterrent to others. It also does justice to the victim, their relations and well wishers. Moreover, in broader sense, society at large feel protected in currency of long incarceration of the accused in jail. With the passage of time, they become reformed humans. Simultaneously, with the passage of time they renderers harmless to the victim family and society at large”, court observed.
Court passed the conviction and quantum of sentence upon the accused persons under Section 276 CrPC.
“It is not only the duty of the court, but social and legal obligations are clearly enjoined upon it to impose adequate punishment according to law while taking into consideration not only the crime, but also the criminal”, court said.
