JAMMU, Feb 7: Shakespeare’s famous play ‘The Midnight Summer Dream’, freed from its western settings was presented as a successful adaptation embedded in the colors of Rajasthan, at the Abhinav Theatre here today.
Staged by Ujagar Dramatic Association, Jaipur, the play in Hindi/Rahjasthani, titled as ‘Kulsoom Sapno’, has been adapted by Ipshitaa Chakraborty Singh and directed by Ajeet Singh Palawat.
The play’s original plot has been retained and revolves around events such as lovers flee to the wilderness, placing of love juice in the eyes of lovers, lovers change their objects of attraction, Puck/Payare heads turned as ass head, fairy queen under love-juice spell falls for ass head, all spells are broken, lovers return to the court, the nakals play on occasion of royal wedding.
But play’s design and composition structured with vibrant colours of Rajasthani folk music, dance and creative weaving of Rajasthani folk theater form of nakal, bestowed the native earthiness to today’s production.
