SAMBA, Feb 9: State President Young Panthers Yashpal Kundal has demanded reservation in promotion of the SC and ST employees working in Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing a press conference, Kundal said the passage of bill in the Parliament regarding the amendment in constitutional provision to provide 10 per cent reservation in Government jobs and education to economically backward section in the general category recently would benefit the people in the admissions to educational institutions and applying for the Government services.
While flaying the previous State Government for its callous attitude towards the SC and ST employees of J&K, he regretted that the Government earlier used to provide the reservations in promotions to SC and ST employees but soon after the alliance of BJP-PDP took over the reins of power, these reservations were upheld for no reason thus divesting the said category of employees of their genuine rights.
“It was quite unfortunate that 7 BJP MLAs from Jammu region who were sent to the Assembly on reserved seats under SC and ST category miserably failed to rake up the issue in support of such employees. People should now gird up their loins to teach the Saffron Party a befitting lesson for its persistent betrayals, surrenders and deceit during the tenure”, Kundal added.
He drew the attention of the Governor towards the last year judgement of the Supreme Court which endorsed the view plea of the Central and State Governments that the members of the SC/ST caste should be presumed backward and should be given reservations in the job promotions.
He further urged upon the constitutional head of the State to personally intervene and consider the matter on priority by issuing an order for resumption of reservation process so that the justice is done with the SC/ST employees working in J&K Government.
“The issue is very trivial. The promotion quota for SC/ST employees is only 8 per cent, which means out of 100 employees due for the promotion, only 8 employees belonging to said category would be benefitted in conformity with the reservation guidelines”, Kundal said.
Among others present were Mohinder Singh, Vishav Singh and Udeyveer.
