Kunwar Viyogi Memorial Trust Organizes story writing contest

JAMMU, Sept 4: Kunwar Viyogi Memorial Trust, in collaboration with the Department of English, University of Jammu, organized a bilingual short story writing competition, here today. The competition that coincided with the birth anniversary of Sahitya Academy award winning poet Kunwar Viyogi, was held at the Department of English, in which students from Dogri Department and English Department participated.
The short story writing competition centred around the life and works of Kunwar Viyogi wherein the participants were asked to pick any event from Kunwar Viyogi’s life mentioned in his biography and construct a short story around it.
The bilingual short story writing competition was coordinated by Assistant Professor Dr Garima Gupta, Department of English,  under the supervision of Dr Sucheta Pathania, Head of the English  Department.
While stressing upon the need to conduct more such activities in the university, KVMT founder, Poonam Singh Jamwal said that losing a language means losing the vision, culture and knowledge of the people who spoke it. “Thus, it is imperative to preserve and promote local languages and what better way to do it than engaging the students to instill and reignite in them the love for their language,” she added.
The result of the competition will be formally announced during `Cheten Di Lari’ event to be held at Brig  Rajinder Singh auditorium, University of Jammu on September 7 2017.  The event is being held in collaboration with Department  of Dogri, University of Jammu.
