Srinagar, Oct 6: Kashmir University’s indecisiveness in accepting online examination forms for the last semesters of BA LLB and LLB courses are worrying the students who accuse the varsity of delaying their degrees.
The Varsity issued a notification on September 30, asking the students to deposit the online examination forms, but withdrew it the next day, citing pending decisions. “All the students of the department of law and private affiliated colleges are informed that due to pending decisions of authorities, they should not submit examination form or fee for the current session till further directions in this regard,” the notification stated.
The students, however, blamed the lenient attitude of the Varsity for the delay in the examination process. “Exams are conducted at the national level, but KU cannot handle the department efficiently,” a student said.
The students said they are lagging behind by one semester due to the two back-to-back lockdowns that the Valley saw in the last one year. “The situation that developed after the abrogation of article 370 and the ongoing pandemic affected our studies. Even after facing these setbacks, the authorities still cannot get their stuff together. I think they are accustomed to such delays and think of it as a normal procedure,” another student said, adding that time and age bar is important for students, but they are losing both due to the administrative apathy.
Dean and Head of Department of Law, Mohammad Ayoub, told Excelsior that the delay was because of a technical glitch. “It will be fixed in next two-three days, we are on it,” he said, adding that the process was halted after receiving complaints of excess fee receipts from students.
He explained that the software was issuing the receipts against the earlier semester and showing it as pending fees for the majority of the students. “Since students had deposited previous forms offline the data is unavailable in the software. These students were unavailable to deposit the form as the fee was too high for them. The refunding of extra-fee would have been a time consuming process. We do not want any problems for the students, so the process was stalled,” he said.
Another problem confronting the administration was the system engineer has turned positive for COVID-19. “The person who will resolve the issue has tested positive. He will recover in the next two-three days and the issue will be redressed,” another official said.
