JAMMU, Sept 29: An NSS volunteer of the University of Kashmir was conferred with the NSS Award by President, Droupadi Murmu, at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi today.
Kifayatullah Malik, the NSS volunteer from the Department of Social Work, University of Kashmir was provided the award for the year 2021-22 for his contributions in social sector.
As per a statement, Malik has participated in a number of blood donation camps organised by the NSS unit and has himself donated the blood three times. He has also played a pivotal role in providing coaching and stationary material free-of-cost to the village people.
He has also rendered his services in construction of home for a homeless widow.
As part of the NSS team, Kifayatullah Malik has also raised Rs 74, 524 in order to provide food kits to the needy. He has actively participated in various awareness programmes on road safety and traffic rules, importance of voting, digital literacy, gender sensitization, and various Government schemes besides planting more than 500 saplings.
In recognition of his exemplary and commendable social service through NSS, Malik has been awarded with the National Service Scheme Award for the year 2021-22.
Pertinently, the award has been instituted by the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and is presented every year to the NSS volunteers, Programme Officers, NSS units and the universities/+2 councils to recognise their voluntary services.
Meanwhile, LG Manoj Sinha has congratulated Malik for the award. “Many congratulations to Kifayatullah Malik of Kashmir University for receiving NSS Volunteer Award 2021-22 from President Droupadi Murmu. His dedication, selfless service to the community is commendable. May you continue to inspire others with your noble work”, Office of LG J&K wrote on X.
