Srinagar, July 25: Kashmir University Teachers Association (KUTA) Saturday held a daylong seminar in the campus to mark its annual day.
The seminar titled ‘University Teachers: Challenges & Responsibilities’ provided a platform to academics to offer their perspective on the topic.
The speakers called upon teachers to maintain their intellectual identity and help the society to move forward in this age of globalization.
In his keynote address, Professor M A Sofi, said: “Teaching in our institutions has been reduced to uninteresting chore which needs to be revived and rejuvenated with intellectual and innovative ideas to inspire students and scholars to think creatively.”
Prof Sofi dwelt at length on role of a teacher as an ‘educator’ and ‘academician’.
Prof Hameeda Nayeem, Prof Gul Muhammad Wani and Prof Hamidullah Marazi presented their papers during the seminar, highlighting that teachers need to be provided with all required facilities to make the overall process of teaching and learning interesting.
In his welcome address, KUTA President Dr Salahuddin Tak talked about the aims and objectives of the seminar. General Secretary KUTA Dr Ehtisham-ul-Haq and Joint Secretary Tariq Abdullah were also present on the occasion.
Several University teachers were felicitated on the occasion on attaining superannuation.
