Kuwait sends aid plane to Syria

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 31 : Kuwait sent an aid plane to Syria on Monday, the first since the fall of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s government earlier this month, the official Kuwait News Agency reported.
The plane departed from Abdullah al-Mubarak air base in Kuwait City, carrying 20 tons of food, tents, and blankets, to assist the most vulnerable population in Syria.
At a press conference before the plane’s departure, Khaled Al-Mughamis, chairman of the Kuwait Red Crescent Society, said the relief plane, loaded with much-needed humanitarian assistance, demonstrates Kuwait’s solidarity with Syria and its commitment to supporting Syrians in meeting their basic needs.
Al-Mughamis added the aid would be delivered to the Syrian authorities, who will then manage its distribution to the most needy communities.
The dispatch of the plane coincided with a visit by a high-level delegation led by Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Abdullah Ali Al-Yahya and Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi to Syria’s capital Damascus.
