KUWJ to stay away from KPC elections

Srinagar, July 5: Kashmir Union of Working Journalists (KUWJ) has decided not to participate in the elections of the Kashmir Press Club (KPC) to be held next week alleging that they are being conducted in violation of founding principles of the club.
A statement issued by the KUWJ said: “It is utterly disappointing that crucial issues like primary memberships being awarded in violation of the constitution and law of the land were brushed under the carpet by those who have been entrusted with ensuring free, fair and transparent elections. Our attempts towards ensuring probity and propriety have been stonewalled”.
“Without going into the merits of whatever ways were used to subvert the basic agreement arrived at the time of setting up of the KPC, we will continue our efforts in the hope that the first elected body will introspect over the issues raised by our forum and take tangible steps in order to ensure that the real purpose of establishing the Press Club is fulfilled”, the statement adds.
“We would stand shoulder to shoulder with all those fellow members of the club who are evenly keen to uphold the core principles of ethical journalism and espouse the virtues of truth and unswerving probity in the pursuit of genuine goals of the fraternity”, the statement said.
