REASI, Aug 8: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi, under the aegis of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J), organized one day training programme for the Self Help Groups (SHGs) members, here today at Dogra Haat in Chetar village of Pouni block.
The training programme was organized in collaboration with Jammu & Kashmir Rural Livelihood Mission (JKRLM) and enthuastically attended by the number of women members of different SHGs of the area. The programme was organised under the stewardship of SKUAST-Jammu Vice Chancellor, Prof B N Tripathi and guidance of Director Extension, Prof S K Gupta.
Dr Banarsi Lal, Sr Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi initiated the programme and guided the participants on various income generation activities. He said that SHGs formation has immense scope in hilly areas and can play a significant role in women empowerment. He stressed on the homogeneity, fortnight meetings and book keeping of SHGs. He guided the participants on the scientific cultivation of organic vegetables, turmeric and ginger cultivation, pulses production and their value addition etc.
Dr Banarsi stressed on the nutri-gardens and added that by growing the organic vegetables rural women can get more farm income. He stressed on value addition in fruits, vegetables and spices to enhance the income and employment among the SHGs members. He also guided the trainees on the preservation of seasonal fruits and vegetables and elaborated the techniques of their value addition.
Yougal Kishore Sharma, Nodal Officer, JKRLM, Reasi spoke on the seasonal fruits and vegetables processing. He encouraged the participants to scale up the entrepreneurships started by the SHGs members. Raj Kumar, ICICI foundation spoke on the value addition in spices for more farm returns.
During the programme many quarries were raised by the participants which were answered by the officials in a satisfactorily way. Quality packaging material was also provided to the SHGs members during the programme. During the programme, Anita Devi, an awardee women farmer of the area was also present. The programme was concluded by Yougal Kishore Sharma with formal vote of thanks.
