JAMMU, Dec 26: The Sub- Committee of the Committee on Environment of Legislative Assembly today directed the Industries & Commerce Department to register all the brick kilns with the Industries Department as per the Section-7 of J&K Brick Kilns Act-2010 with in a period of one month provided the units fulfill the conditions as provided in the Brick Kilns (Regulations)Rules 2011.
The Sub- Committee, which met here today under its chairmanship of MLA, Ch. Zaulfkar Ali, asked the department to submit the compliance report in the Assembly Secretariat for the scrutiny of the Committee members.
The Sub-Committee asked for circulating necessary instructions to all District Development Commissioners in this regard to ensure compliance in the stipulated time frame.
The Sub- Committee discussed the issues in detail about the impact of brick kilns units in Jammu province on human and agriculture production.
The Committee members Ch. Sham Lal and Charanjeet Singh gave their valuable suggestions for reducing the impact of the brick kilns units on the environment. The Panel asked the concerned departments to work in unison and take all measures to reduce the affects of brick kilns on agriculture production and as well as human lives.
Earlier, the District Development Commissioner, Jammu Sanjeev Verma briefed the Committee about the steps taken by the administration to enforce the environment protection norms at the brick kilns. He informed that the owners have been asked to cover the trucks and trolleys transporting the clay and the finished bricks to reduce the impact of dust on the environment.
Among others, District Development Commissioner, Rajouri, Saugat Biswas, Director Industries & Commerce, G.A. Qureshi, Director Environment and Remote Sensing, Suresh Chug, Director Agriculture, Jammu, Ajay Khajuria, Special Secretary Law, Farhat Tasneem, Director Geology and Mining, F.A. Khan, Chief Engineer, PHE, Jammu Ashwani Sharma, Additional Secretary Assembly Mulakh Raj Singh, Deputy Controller, Legal Metrology Jammu, Manoj Prabakar and other officers from various departments besides Assembly Secretariat attended the meeting.
