JAMMU, Mar 14: President West Pakistan Refugees Action Committee, Labha Ram Gandhi will be the candidate of Refugees United Front from Jammu-Poonch, Lok Sabha seat during the ensuing elections.
This was announced by Rajiv Chuni president of newly floated Refugees United Front a conglomerate of various refugee organizations from PoJK and West Pakistan at a press conference here, today.
He said after hectic deliberations with the community members it was decided that Labha Ram Gandhi will be the candidate of the Front from Jammu –Poonch Lok Sabha seat.
He said no decision has been yet taken on fielding the candidate from Kathua- Udhampur Lok Sabha seat and Front is looking to support any party which will extend support to its candidate from Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha seat.
Mr Chuni said in view of the insensitive and indifferent attitude of all the political parties towards the issues and demands of refugees, the Front has decided to field its own candidate at least from one Lok Sabha seat this time. “This had become necessary for us due to the apathy shown to our cause by successive Central and State Governments as well as political parties and we were left with no alternative either to boycott poll or field the candidate’’, he added.
Mr Chuni made an appeal to entire displaced community including West Pak, PoJK, 1965, 1971 DPs etc to vote and support Mr Gandhi so that a clear cut message is sent to political parties that they can’t any longer take refugees for granted.
He said Labha Ram is a prospective candidate and besides the refugee he belongs to OBC community also.
Capt. (retd) Yudhvir Singh, chairman of the Front , Labha Ram Gandhi, its general secretary, Khajoor Singh, senior vice president, S R Nagyal, chief spokesperson and other leaders were also present in the press conference.
