Labourer falls from Sumo, dies

MENDHAR, June 25: A Bihari labourer working in Mendhar area of Poonch today fell down from the roof top of an over loaded Tata Sumo on Harni-Mendhar road this morning.
The mishap took place when labourer Tavrez Alam, son of Habib Alam, resident of Nowti village in Bihar and presently residing at Harni along with other labourers of his area, was on way to Mendhar town on a Sumo at around 10 AM.
As per usual practice in this area under the nose of local Police and Traffic cops, the victim was sitting on the roof top of the Tata Sumo along with other passengers. Some were hanging at the rear portion of the vehicle holding carriage support railing. Tavrez suddenly fell down from the moving vehicle due to jump and received serious head injuries. He was rushed to Mendhar Sub District Hospital, where doctors declared him as brought dead.
The driver along with vehicle later escaped from the spot. The police registered a case in this connection and managed to seize the vehicle from Harni area but driver was still absconding. The police was conducting raids to arrest the driver. The dead body of the poor labourer was sent to his native village in Bihar as locals also made some contribution for the purpose.
