JAMMU, May 10: With the relaxation given in the construction activities by the Government during ongoing lockdown due to COVID-19 pandemic, the labour class has taken a sigh of relief as they have started getting work in the construction activities throughout villages and cities across Jammu and Kashmir.
Vikas, a carpenter by profession of main Doda town said that the relaxation has come at a right time and he has been able to resume his work in his workshop along with his associates, where they were seen making doors, windows and wood paneling material. The relaxation has again led to employability of men especially of labour class and they have again been able to find work, he added.
The R&B Department has also resumed some construction activities amid lockdown with all the preventive measures like maintaining social distance. The construction of culverts is taking place on the Damhal Umerkhair Road, Anantnag by the R&B department, Sub-Division Kokernag. Mushtaq Ahmad, a contractor working on the project said that the labourers are being taken care of by providing them masks and gloves and ensuring other preventive measures like social distancing among them.
Sohan, a mason by profession of Reasi said that the relaxation has led to our employability yet again and the construction activities are taking place in many villages where people are constructing houses and other buildings.
Brick kilns across many districts of J&K have also resumed work and are employing local and outsider labourers. Sunder Ram, a labourer from Bihar at a brick kiln in village Dialgam Anantnag said he and his many colleagues have been able to find work at this brick kiln and manage their daily affairs now.
Parvaiz Ahmad of Baptia Bazar, Bihar who works as a painter in Kulgam for last 10 years said that the painting work has again started after the relaxation and I along with my other associates have resumed work.
Darminder, of Lalitgram Bihar, who works as a mason said that he has started marble work in many houses after the construction work resumed in Kashmir.
