LADAKH, July 31: A delegation of Ladakh Bharatiya Janata Mahila Morcha (BJMM) met Smriti Irani Union Minister for Women and Child Development under the leadership of Member of Parliament and BJP UT President Jamyang Tsering Namgyal at New Delhi.
The delegation was accompanied by UT President Rinchen Lhamo, Senior BJP Leader Nazir Ahmed, Mohammed Hasan Pasha UT Media Secretary Incharge, Tsering Angmo UT Media Secretary and Ishey Yangzom.
During the meeting, a memorandum was presented to Union Minister through which Ladakh BJMM demands representation in the National Women Commission of Women for Ladakh region, reservation of 33 per cent for women in both LAHDCs of Leh and Kargil districts, provision of rehabilitation center for mentally challenged women in both Leh and Kargil districts and establishment of women Battalion in Ladakh Scout Regimental Center in Indian Army.
In her concluding remarks, UT BJMM President Rinchen Lhamo extended gratitude on behalf of entire women of Ladakh to the Modi Government for empowering women by inducting 11 women in the Union Cabinet expansion.
The Union Minister Smriti Irani gave a patience hearing to all the issues projected by the delegation and assured that appropriate measures will be taken soon to address the issues related to the empowerment of women politically as well.
She said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is committed to empower the women in Ladakh.
Later, the delegation requested the Union Minister to visit Ladakh region, so that various issues being faced by the women of Ladakh at the ground level can be addressed.
