‘Admn, Hill Councils, PRIs working for people’

LEH, Oct 31: Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, RK Mathur, today attended the celebrations of the Foundation Day of UT Ladakh as the chief guest at Eco-Cultural Park. He flagged off the Run for Unity on the occasion of National Unity Day.
He inaugurated the food stalls of various self-help groups (SHGs) in the Leh main market and also the departmental exhibition stalls, including digital van, at Eco Park. He virtually laid the foundation stones for various developmental projects in Ladakh.
Chairman, LAHDC Leh, Tashi Gyalson; Chairman, LAHDC Kargil, Feroz Ahmed Khan; Deputy Chairman, LAHDC Leh, Tsering Angchuk; Executive Councillors from LAHDC Leh and Kargil; Councillors, Chairpersons of Block Development Councils (BDCs), Sarpanch and Panch of various villages; Advisor Umang Narula; General Officer Commanding (GOC) 14 Corps, Lt Gen Anindya Sengupta; officials from armed forces; Administrative Secretaries; AGDP Ladakh Police SS Khandare; DIG Ladakh Police, Shaikh Junaid; Deputy Commissioner Leh, Shrikant Balasaheb Suse; SSP Leh, PD Nitya, district officials, students from different schools, volunteers from Nehru Yuva Kendra and a large number of people were present during the function.
Mathur congratulated the people of Ladakh on the successful completion of three years as a Union Territory. He stated that the most important development that took place after the formation of Ladakh as a UT is that now the region can dream its own dream, fulfil its potential through focused attention and implement plans for the overall development and benefit of the people.
He requested the people of Ladakh to appreciate the achievements, provide their cooperation in development works and take Ladakh forward.
Stating that various laws of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir giving protections and safeguards are still in place, LG Mathur stated that the formation of Ladakh as a Union Territory is a gift from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to develop Ladakh. He stated that the Prime Minister has given the mantra of development viz. carbon neutral Ladakh. To achieve this, he has also announced a 7.5 GW solar-based power project. He further stated that the Administration along with both the Hill Councils and Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) bodies are making efforts to fulfil the aspirations of the people of Ladakh.
Terming youth as important at all levels, Mathur emphasised the need for harnessing the youth power for their own welfare and the overall development of the region. He further stated that efforts would be made to fill up vacant posts in the next one year and also to make Ladakh one of the top Union Territories in the country in the future.
Mathur virtually laid foundations stones of Tehsil Office Complex at Nyoma; Tehsil Office at Chiktan and Drass; Inspection and Certificate Centre of the Transport Department; the construction of museums at heritage sites at Hanley and Bodh Kharbu; installation of the astronomical telescope at Punguk in Hanley; the construction of doctors and staff quarters at Primary Health Centre (PHC) Khaltsi, Nyoma, Temisgam, Saspol and Community Health Centre (CHC) Skurbuchan; the construction of the 30-bedded hospital at PHC Tangtse; construction of 6.3 MVA, 66/11 KV Receiving Station at Namsuru, Mangbour and 66 KV transmission line from Kargil GIS Station to Lalung Substation; the construction of 33/11 KV 3.15 MVA at Henachi, Nubra; inauguration of wayside amenities at Khaltsi and Likir Thang; inauguration of wayside amenities at Purtikchey, Zangla, Himling and Bodh Kharbu; the inauguration of Tehsil Office Complex at Sumoor; distribution of telescopes and dark sky lights to beneficiaries of Hanley; launch of School Enterprise Resource Planner to facilitate digital records and school management systems in government schools across Ladakh; inauguration of Skill Development Centre with 5KV solar back-up facility at Nyoma and Nubra; inauguration of Liquid Nitrogen Plant in Kargil and strengthening of EPF Farm Padum; inauguration of 175 nomadic pre-fabricated houses for nomads of Changthang; inauguration of Block Development Office/Block Develooment Council offices at Drass, Bhimbat, Shargole, Lotchum, Taisuru and Karsha; inauguration of Common Facilitation Centres (CFCs) at Samrah, Tumail and Faroona, CFC/ Panchayat Ghar at GM Pore and Zanskar and Public Park at Barsoo.
Chairman, LAHDC Leh, Tashi Gyalson, stated that the journey of Ladakh as a Union Territory as challenging as everything had to be started from scratch. He appreciated the Government officials for their hard work in laying a strong foundation for the overall development of the region. He shared various initiatives taken since the formation of the Union Territory for the development of Ladakh.
Chairman, LAHDC Kargil, Feroz Ahmed Khan, highlighted the manifold increase in the Capex budget and subsidy component of the Hill Councils and appreciated the officials for their hard work despite challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic. He also shared various ongoing developmental projects in Kargil district.
Earlier, Advisor Umang Narula welcomed the guests.
Meanwhile, NC vice president Omar Abdullah during his visit to Drass in Kargil alleged that his mike was taken away by the administration when he was addressing the people.
He said he was also denied entry to Dak Bunglow in Drass.
