LEH, Aug 6: Ladakh marked a significant milestone with the 8th dPal rNgam Duston celebration, commemorating 50 years of tourism and the Union Territory declaration.
The event, held at NDS Sports Ground, was presided over by Lieutenant Governor Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) and featured a vibrant array of cultural performances and awards.
The festivities began with a lively procession from Leh Palace and included traditional Chamms (Mask Dance), Dekar Dance, Yak-Singe Dance, and Lharna musical tunes.
A documentary showcased the achievements of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) and the Union Territory, highlighting regional progress.
Honours were bestowed upon several distinguished individuals. Ven Lama Lobzang received the LAHDC Lifetime Achievement Award for his humanitarian work, while Abdul Ghani Sheikh was honoured with the dPal rNgam Duston Award for his contributions as a renowned writer and historian.
Lobzang Tsendol, the first female travel agent in Ladakh, and Nawang Tsering of Hotel Omasila were recognized for their pioneering roles in tourism and hospitality, respectively.
RIMO Expedition’s Tsewang Mutup Goba also received an Appreciation Certificate for promoting adventure tourism.
In his address, Chairman/CEC Tashi Gyalson praised the significant contributions of award recipients and highlighted the progress made since Ladakh’s transition to Union Territory status.
He emphasized the importance of preserving Ladakh’s culture and heritage while acknowledging advancements across various sectors.
DC/CEO Santosh Sukhadeve underscored the event’s role in celebrating Ladakhi culture and fostering unity for holistic development.
He commended the efforts of the LAHDC and the UT administration in promoting sustainable growth.
The evening concluded with an electrifying performance by Indian Idol’s Pawan Deep Rajan and local talents, including Padma Dolkar, Stakmo Dorjey, Dashugs Band, and Rolyangs Band, leaving attendees thoroughly entertained.
