JAMMU, Feb 3: A delegation from Ladakh led by Thupstan Chhewang, Member of Parliament (MP) from Ladakh, called on Kiren Rijiju, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs at North Block in New Delhi.
The delegation took up some of the very crucial issues pertaining with the Home Ministry and sought the personal intervention of the Minister.
The issues taken up by the delegation were Phuktal River blockage, strengthening of border security along with China and Pakistan and effective implementation of welfare schemes for border living people of Ladakh.
In the high level meeting, Chhewang catches the attention of the Minister toward the Phuktal River blockage and said, “The situation arising out of formation of artificial lake due to blockage of flow of Phuktal River caused due to land slide, could have very serious consequences unless timely action is not initiated to combat the situation”.
“The matter is needed to be taken up very seriously and an expert team of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) should be sent on priority”, he said and requested the Minister to undertake an aerial survey to assess the magnitude and seriousness of the situation.
After giving his attentive hear to the delegation, the Minister assured to undertake an aerial survey personally and directed the concerned authorities to arrange an aerial tour for him at the earliest.
Chhewang in meeting with the Minister submitted his previous letter copies wrote to the concerned authorities besides photos of the location taken by district authorities of Kargil during their aerial survey.
The meeting discussed in detail about the blockage of Phuktal River due to landslide and the MP gave all relevant explanations to the Minister besides showing the exact sites through Google Maps.
