Ladakh gears up for Bakula Centenary Celebration

LEH, (Ladakh) Apr, 26: As the day draws nearer to celebrate the Bakula Centenary throughout Ladakh on  May, 19 a high-level meeting was held at Pethub Gonpa School to take stock of the arrangements. The meeting was attended by religious communities, political leaders, women alliance, Chief Executive Councilors, Executive Councilors, Councilors, monks from different Monastery, school principals, representative from different Tsogspa and media persons.
It was proposed to organize different programmes and educational activities throughout the year by different organizations, religious communities, village communities, schools and colleges to pay rich tribute to 19th Bakula Rinpoche. In the meeting different committees were formed and main organizing committee was headed by Geshes Konchok Wangdus with Padma Shree Morup Namgyal as Vice Chairman.
Hill Council Chairman, Dr Sonam Dawa informed the meeting that the main function on May 19 will be the departmental function and Council had already sent request to PMO Office to invite Prime Minister as chief guest on the main function. He assured that May 19  will be eventful day with various activities such as culture programme at Polo Ground, seminars, Fortis Hospital medical camp, illuminating Spituk Monastery and KBR airport, Foundation stone laying ceremony of Airport New terminal expansion and Deem University by PM.
Assuring his best support to make the event a grand success LBA President Tsewang Thinles suggested in making the programme in a proper way without clashing with  other activities.
Expressing his views Anjuman Imamiya president Ashraf Ali Barcha said that Bakula was known for secular image therefore efforts should be made to promote his secular image which is the need of the hour. Merchant Association President Haji Riyaz Ahmed proposed to make grand celebration across Nation with wide publicity.  Culture Academy Officer Tsewang Paljor said that celebration themes should be “good heart” to make the celebration more meaningful.
Christian Association president Dechen Chamba announced a scholarship to a student from nursery to higher education on the name of Bakula. LBA Women president Tsewang Dolma appealed to declare dry day during the celebration. DCC president Tsering Samphel suggested to include MP, MLAs, MLCs and region wise councilors as the organizing committee member.
Mentioning in detail about various programmes schedules Padma Shree Morup Namgyal assigned different works and activities to different stakeholders. He appealed the Monastery representative to make free entry for visitors in every monastery on May 19.
It was decided that women organizations were assigned the Phoks and Kalchor reception. Anjuman Imamiya will arrange Argon Darches (Archery). There will be Photo exhibitions by LAMO. AIR and DDK will highlight events about Bakula’s contribution to spread maximum awareness. Education Department will conduct various activities in their institution in the name of Bakula.
Earlier, welcoming the organizing committee chairman Geshes Konchok Wangdus highlighted the contribution of the legendary figure who led the people of Ladakh for over half a century both as religious as well as a political leader.
Organizing Committee secretary Dr.Sonam Wangchuk also spoke in detail about programme.
