Ladakh LG meets top-ranked ITBP officers, CEO Looms, others

LEH, Feb 25: The Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Retd) BD Mishra on Saturday met Principal District and Sessions Judge, Leh, Yashpal Sharma, top-ranked Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) officers and CEO Looms of Ladakh, Lobzang Lhamo here at Raj Niwas.
As per a statement, the LG Ladakh inquired about the pendency of cases at the District Court in Leh and steps being taken to reduce the pendency of the cases.
It said that he (LG Ladakh) was told by Yashpal Sharma that the pendency of the cases is being brought down through legal awareness activities such as Lok Adalats.
“He was also informed by Sharma that the number of litigations in Leh and Kargil are less than other parts of the country as most the cases heard at the District Court comprise of matrimonial and commercial disputes,” read the statement.
The LG asked the Principal District and Sessions Judge, Leh to make concerted efforts to further bring down the pendency of the cases.
The LG Ladakh also met Inspector General of Police (IGP) Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) North-West Frontier, Sanjay Gunjyal and Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Administration, ITBP NWF, Ashok Negi.
The Lieutenant Governor reviewed the security arrangements at the border areas of Ladakh with the top-ranked ITBP officials. The IG ITBP NWF, Sanjay informed the LG about the preparedness to carry out security tasks throughout the year at the border.
The LG asked the officers for ensuring good connectivity, proper stocking and logistic support to the ITBP troops deployed in the forward posts in Ladakh.
Meanwhile Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Looms of Ladakh, Lobzang Lhamo, and her team also met with the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), and First Lady Neelam Mishra at the Leh-based Raj Niwas.
Commissioner Secretary, Industries and Commerce, Saugat Biswas, was also present during the meeting.
As per a statement, Lhamo discussed various handloom and handicraft products made by the members of the Self-Help Groups (SHGs) comprising women from remote areas of Ladakh.
Looms of Ladakh was initiated in 2017 with the aim to improve the livelihood of women of Ladakh through handloom and handicraft products made from pashmina and yak wool.
The statement further said that the Lieutenant Governor highlighted the importance of marketing for the sale of the products and the need to provide right and proportionate incentives to the workers.
He inquired about the capacity-building trainings being provided to the SHGs and entrepreneurs in Ladakh. He also instructed the Commissioner Secretary, Industries and Commerce, to conduct activities in the lean period during the winters so that the members of SHGs can earn their livelihood during this period also.
Commissioner Secretary, Industries and Commerce, Saugat Biswas, informed about the capacity-building training programmes held for SHGs and entrepreneurs through NIFD and developing marketing avenues through TRIFED.
He also informed about the establishment of Brand Ladakh Emporium at Leh and the upcoming Brand Ladakh Emporium at Delhi.
The First Lady appreciated the efforts of the members of Looms of Ladakh for the promotion of local handloom and handicraft products.
