LEH, Mar 20: Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier BD Mishra (Retd) today held a meeting with the concerned Departmental Secretaries to discuss the progress of development works of their respective departments, at Raj Niwas.
A press statement said that the Ladakh LG instructed the concerned Secretaries and officials not to allow the felling of trees in Ladakh and the need to conserve trees due to low forest cover in the region.
He also inquired about the Ladakh Tourism logo and stated that the logo should have been put in the public domain for feedback from the public as it concerns them.
He instructed the Department of Urban Local Bodies to continue cleanliness drives in Ladakh even after the completion of the Youth-20 Pre-Summit to be held in Leh under the aegis of G20 in April.
Brig BD Mishra (Retd), the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, directed Police to remove all designation boards from the vehicles of important personalities and officials, except those who are entitled to them.
He also inquired about the possibility of operating a civil airport in Kargil and increasing air traffic. The LG Ladakh instructed Saugat to look for an alternative airstrip so that civil airlines can operate in Kargil for the convenience of the public of the Kargil district.
He also inquired about the lack of Hindi teachers at Government Schools, the recruitment process for various posts in the University of Ladakh, the disbursal of pending salaries to National Health Mission (NHM) employees and the faculty of the University of Ladakh, opening of the Shingku-La Pass at the earliest, providing potable water to students of Eliezer Joldan Memorial (EJM) College, the possibility of opening an examination centre in Kargil for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) aspirants and the possibility of increasing the number of establishments such as Animal Husbandry in different parts of Ladakh.
He also inquired about the steps that could be taken for the overall benefit of nomads and the promotion and breeding of pashmina goats in Ladakh.
