Ladakh region records season’s first heavy snowfall

LEH :  Ladakh region recorded season’s first heavy snowfall early this morning, resulting in disruption of air traffic and surface transport service.     All incoming and outgoing flights from the Leh airport have been cancelled due to heavy snowfall and poor visibility, official sources said.
The region is already cut off from the rest of the state following closure of the Srinagar-Leh National Highway due to accumulation of heavy snow between Sonamarg- Zojila and Meenmarg since December last year.
Roof and tree tops, roads and open fields turned white as Leh and adjoining areas witnessed first heavy snowfall of the winter, much to the delight of people.
Heavy snowfall since early this morning disrupted traffic in Leh town.
The administration has launched snow clearance operation on the roads, they said.
Heavy to very heavy snowfall was being recorded on the upper reaches in the region since last night, disrupting normal life. (AGENCIES)
