Admn to build 10,000 homestays in 5 yrs

JAMMU, Jan 27: Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Brig (Retired) BD Mishra has announced that the Union Territory of Ladakh will have its own Recruitment Board/Staff Selection Commission and work on it will start in next few days.
He made the announcement while addressing the people after unfurling tricolor at Leh on the occasion of Republic Day.
“Till last year, the selections in Ladakh were made by the SSC headquartered in Delhi. This caused long delays due to which Ladakh youth suffered problems in getting jobs. You will be happy to hear that we will have our own Recruitment Board/SSC in Ladakh. Work on it will start in next few days,” the LG Ladakh announced.
He said several vacancies are being continuously filled by LAHDC—SSRB Leh and Kargil.
He added that Recruitment Rules for Gazetted posts are under process. “I met the UPSC Chairman and he assured me that this will be done soon”.
Brig Mishra said the UT administration is developing six Industrial Estates to promote the industrial ecosystem in the field of Industries and Commerce. During 2022-23, 71.30 MT Organic Apricot were exported to the international market, he added.
Asserting that 5,25,374 tourists visited Ladakh last year, the LG said the administration will build 10,000 homestays in the next five years as a part of the New Ladakh Homestay Policy to increase employment in this sector for the youth of Ladakh.
“The Dark Sky Reserve is being established in Changthang to promote astro-tourism. We have taken permission from the Home Ministry for overnight stay of foreigners there,” Brig (Retd) Mishra said.
He announced that Cultural Centres are being constructed in Leh and Kargil to preserve languages and culture of Ladakh.
He asked the people of Ladakh to come together and take the pledge to make Ladakh the most developed and prosperous Union Territory among the eight UTs of India in the next five years.
The Lieutenant Governor expressed gratitude to the armed forces, paramilitary forces and police personnel for their devotion to duty and for going beyond their assigned responsibilities and contribution to the health and education of the local people.
He also mentioned the successful celebration of the fifth Ladakh Foundation Day under the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat programme under which 175 students from remote areas of Ladakh along with 35 teachers were sent to every Raj Niwas and Raj Bhawan of the country to showcase the culture and art of Ladakh.
Brig (Retd) Mishra highlighted various initiatives taken by the administration along with both Hill Councils and Panchayati Raj Institutions to develop Ladakh, viz. carbon-neutral Ladakh, development and transportation work, telecommunication work, employment for youth, business and skill development, tourism development, complete and special protection of Ladakhi culture, security programme, education development, development in health sector, agricultural development, development in the field of sports, frontier area development, Swachh Ladakh Programme, etc.
The LG also distributed souvenirs/awards to winners of marching contingents and cultural performances along with certificates of participation on the occasion.
