Lady among 11 arrested with illicit liquor

JAMMU, May 18: Akhnoor, Kishtwar, Arnia and Dera Baba Police arrested 11 persons including a lady along with illicit liquor. Out of 11, four accused were also involved in attacking police team.
As per police sources, teams from Police Station Akhnoor conducted raids in different areas and arrested five persons along with 35 litres of illicit liquor. Two cars bearing registration numbers JK02CC-8387 and JK02T-5199 were also seized.
The arrested persons were identified as Balbir Singh, son of Jalam Singh of Ambaran Akhnoor, Mannu Kumar, son of Sham Lal of Goshan Maira Mandrian, Tilak Raj, son of Mohinder Lal of Village Jhad Tehsil Jourian, Punit Gupta, son of Kuldeep Raj of Ward Number 5 Chugan Mohalla Akhnoor and Satpaul Singh, son of Jasbir Singh of Nardi Bala Akhnoor.
Cases under FIR Numbers 124/2021, 126/2021, 127/2021 and 128/2021 under Excise Act were registered at Police Station Akhnoor and investigation started.
The raids were conducted by different teams of Police Station Akhnoor under the supervision of SDPO Akhnoor Varun Jandial and SHO Akhnoor Inspector Hilal Azhar.
Meanwhile, a team from Police Station Kishtwar led by SHO Inspector Abid Bukhari and assisted by Incharge Police Post Hidyal PSI Manmeet Singh under the supervision of DySP Headquarters Kishtwar Devinder Singh Bandral arrested a lady along with 10 litres of illicit liquor. The team also recovered and destroyed 60 litres of lahan. Distillation materials used for production of illicit liquor were seized on the spot.
A case under FIR Number 96/2021 under Section 48 (A) Exise Act has been registered at Police Station Kishtwar and investigation initiated.
However, a team from Police Station Arnia led by SHO Inspector Harjeet Singh under the supervision of SDPO RS Pura Shabir Khan conducted raid in Shubu Chak area and arrested a man with around 35 litres of illicit liquor. Around 1000 litres of lahan was also destroyed on the spot.
The arrested person was identified as Sardari Lal, son of Taru Ram, a resident of Tehsil Bishnah District Jammu.
A case under FIR Number 39/2021 under Section 48 (a) and (e) Excise Act has been registered at Police Station Arnia and investigation started.
In another similar case, a team from Police Post Dera Baba conducted raids on bank of river Chenab, busted 2 illicit liquor distillation units and has seized all tools and utensils including 15 drums of 2200 litres capacity, a tub, 12 plastic cans of 10 litres each used for storing and transporting hooch alongwith some other utensils and recovered 15 litres of illicit liquor. 2000 litres of lahan kept for fermentation was destroyed on the spot.
On seeing policemen, the accused persons identified as Charan Singh, son of Baldev Singh, Gulwinder Singh, son of Baldev Singh, Surjeet Singh, son of Gulwinder Singh, all residents of Bhabbar Brahamana and Tarlok Chand, son of Ram Saran of Tanda attacked the Police party. Police team had already cordoned the river island easily and nabbed all criminals.
A case under FIR Number 102/2021 under Sections 353, 336 and 307 IPC and 48 (E) Excise Act has been registered at Police Station Reasi and investigation initiated.
Pertinent to mention here that accused Gulwinder Singh is a habitual offender and was already arrested in a case registered under FIR Number 141/2018 under Section 48 (b) (e) Excise Act at Police Station Reasi and still facing trial in court of law.
