LEH, Aug 3: Serving two-day ultimatum to Lt Governor led UT administration to issue warrant of precedence, LAHDC Leh Councilors today threatened to boycott upcoming Independence Day function organized by UT Administration.
Addressing a joint press conference at the Council Secretariat on Wednesday, all councilors including ruling party, opposition and independents said that they have unanimously decided to boycott UT Administration’s Independence Day celebration if the UT administration fails to issue warrant of precedence before ‘Ladakh Rpal Ngam Tuston 2022’ celebration which scheduled to be celebrated on 5th August 2022.
Councilors also announced to celebrate the Independence Day separately and urged the public to support them as it matter of public elected representative’s prestige Institutions Hill Council. Flashing a UT administration order number 230-LA(GAD) of 2022 dated 02-08-2022 released by UT General Administrative Department, opposition councilor Tsering Namgyal said that there is nothing in the order except providing a space nearest to the VVIP during official function. He added that councilors are public representative, representing the entire public of Ladakh and status of the public representative must be identified as promised by Lieutenant Governor of UT Ladakh when few councilors were stopped by police at the Republic Day function celebration venue.
BJP Councillor Lobzang Sherab representing the BJP elected councilors said if the UT Administration fails to give proper status to elected councilors, all the councilors will celebrate the Independence Day separately. “We public representative were badly insulted by UT administration during Republic Day celebration after which we we had sent representation to LG Ladakh through Hill Council Chairman who assured to issue warrant of precedence before 5th August so now we have decided to boycott UT administration Independence Day function if UT Administration fails to issue the warrant of precedence and we will celebrate Independence Day separately” said Lobzang. 5th August is celebrated as the founding day of UT Ladakh as ‘Ladakh Rpal Ngam Tuston’.
Coming heavily on the UT administration bureaucratic set up, Independent Chushul constituency Councilor Konchok Stanzin said that UT administration did nothing except issuing orders while using the infrastructure set up by Hill Council.
Thiksay Councillor Stanzin Chospel asked the UT administration that all the Councillors have no idea what action taken against the Police personnel who reportedly stop them at the gate during Republic day celebration.
