LEH, Nov 30: In a significant move towards boosting the cooperative sector in Ladakh, the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Leh has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Cooperative Union of India (NCUI).
The MoU was signed during a ceremony attended by key officials, including Chairman/CEC, LAHDC Leh, Advocate Tashi Gyalson; Executive Councillor, Stanzin Chosphel; Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC Leh, Santosh Sukhadeve; CEO of NCUI, Dr Sudhir Mahajan; and senior NCUI officials.
A statement said that the collaboration aimed at strengthening the region’s cooperative sector by promoting sustainable practices and improving livelihood opportunities for farmers, Self-Help Groups (SHGs), entrepreneurs, Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), and cooperative societies.
The focus will be on key sectors such as agriculture, horticulture, handloom, handicrafts, and animal husbandry, it said.
Under the MoU, both organizations will work towards training, skill development, exposure visits, market linkages, and providing comprehensive support to local communities.
Special attention will be given to empowering local populations, fostering economic growth, and enhancing their capacity to adopt sustainable practices.
By improving access to markets and creating opportunities for growth, this initiative is expected to contribute significantly to the region’s overall development.
The partnership reaffirmed the commitment of LAHDC Leh and NCUI to enhance Ladakh’s cooperative sector and drive sustainable, inclusive progress.
