PURI, July 14 : lakhs of devotees on Sunday thronged this pilgrim town and had darshan of the Trinity on the Ratna Simhasana at Adap Mandop of the Gundicha temple and partook Mahaprasad on the auspicious day of Navami.
The belief goes that whoever witnesses Lord Jagannath, his elder Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra ,the holy Trinity of Sri Jagannath temple, on the Ratnasimhasan of Gundicha temple and takes Mahaprasad gets salvation.
The Supakaras (cooks) and their support staff were busy in the Gundicha temple kitchen preparing huge quantities of commercial Mahaprasad for the offering to the lords.
Temple sources said over a lakh devotees feasted on Mahaprasad. The price of mahaprasad skyrocketed as there was heavy demand for it.
On Sunday early morning, a long queue of devotees was seen between the barricades leading to the Gundicha temple entry gate.
Since the temple administration had announced to close Sandhya darshan by 5 PM on Sunday, the devotees preferred to have early darshan of the deities. (UNI)
