Lal Singh reviews development scenario in Basohli, Billawar

JAMMU, Apr 15: Minister for Health and Medical Education, ARI and Trainings Ch Lal Singh today reviewed the progress of development projects in Basohli and Billawar under Health, R&B, PHE, RDD, Education and PDD sectors at an officers’ meeting at Basohli.
Ch Lal Singh issued on-the-spot directions to the Public Health Engineering Department to augment the drinking water facilities in areas where there is scarcity of same. He directed for installation of hand pumps, digging of deep drill tube wells and laying of water supply pipes upto tail areas of the Basohli town. He said the Government is committed to provide adequate drinking water supply to the people in every nook and corner especially hilly areas of the State. He said Government is making all out efforts to develop Basohli town with improved basic amenities.
The Minister asked the Executive Officer Municipal Committee Basohli to immediately start renovation of lanes and drains from Ward No. 1 to Ward No. 13. He directed the PDD to upgrade the existing capacity of the transformers of the town so that improved power supply is provided to the people.
Regarding upgradation of health services in Basohli town, the Minister said Government has sanctioned Rs. 9.72 crore for construction of Community Health Centre (CHC) building at Basohli. He informed that the construction of the building is under progress on war-footing by Public Works Department and would be completed within stipulated timeframe.
Ch Lal Singh said the CHC having  facilities of emergency block, OPD block, Operation Theatre, new born care unit, X-ray, ECG, Ultrasound, immunization and counseling center will cater to the   needs of about 50,000 souls of Basohli tehsil and its adjoining areas. He assured that the old hospital building near bus stand will be utilized where provision for first aid and ambulance will be made at the earliest. He also assured ASHA workers that all their pending perks will be cleared at the earliest.
The Minister directed doctors and paramedics staff to follow prescribed dress code and said that steps will be taken to discourage the private practice of doctors. He said the Government is committed to provide better medicare facilities to the people especially in far-flung areas and thrust is being laid to upgrade the basic infrastructure of all health institutions in the State.
Ch Lal Singh stressed on maintaining discipline, punctuality and work culture. He directed the medicos and paramedics to wear identity cards during office hours. He asked the concerned officers to maintain office record in a systematic manner and make strenuous efforts to improve work culture in the departments.
Later, the Minister also inspected the healthcare facilities at Community Health Centre, Billawar.
On the occasion, several deputations hailing from different parts of tehsil Billawar put forth their demands and problems.
The demands put forth by the locals included payment of pending MGNREGA dues, better drinking water supply, power supply, provision for road connectivity and adequate staff in the schools.
Ch Lal Singh gave a patient hearing and assured disposal of genuine demands in time bound manner. He directed the concerned officers to redress the demands highlighted by the people and issue strict instructions to all the field functionaries to mitigate the sufferings of the people on priority.
