Lal Singh takes stock of plantation on Zabarwan Hills

SRINAGAR, Oct 19: Minister for Forests, Environment and Ecology, Chaudhary Lal Singh accompanied by senior officers of Forest Department took stock of plantation works going on in the Zabarwan Hills.
The Minister gave instructions to the officers to be selective in choosing the plant species which should be site specific and demand driven.  For the first time, efforts are being made by the department to go for mechanized plantation on hillocks.  Trials of the machinery procured were made during the visit of the Minister.
The Minister took a meeting of senior officers of Forest Department and allied wings. He gave directions to officers for ensuring proper coordination for firefighting operation in forest areas during the continuing dry spell.  He asked officers to ensure proper vigil in their areas in this regard.
