RAJOURI, Oct 27: Shaheedgarh situated in Lam Sub Sector of Nowshera near LoC is an epitome of sacrifice, patriotism and nationalistic fervor which serves as a guiding beacon for the younger generations of the region for seeking inspiration.
Every year, the locals and descendants of the brave hearts gather at Shaheedgarh war memorial to commemorate the sacrifices of their forefathers who laid down their lives while fighting against Pakistani raiders in 1947. These brave hearts beat back numerous attacks on their motherland and stopped the advance of Pakistani raiders till Indian Army under Brig Mohd Usman arrived for the defense of Naushera on October 28, 1947.
In an effort to celebrate the valour of these brave civilians and also the Indian Army, Tain Rashtriya Rifles spearheaded an initiative known as `Lam Border Mela’ which offers a unique blend of tradition culture and commerce to the region. The event commended with a solemn wreath lying ceremony at Shaheedgarh War Memorial.
The Mela provided a platform to the school children to showcase their talent and express their cultural heritage though music and dance. The event also included martial performances of Gatka and Kalaripattu which captivated the audience with their grace and power.
With a remarkable endeavour of not only honoring the brave but also towards building a brighter future, this Mela provided a significant platform for local entrepreneurs to showcase and expand the market for their products. This opportunity to small scale community businesses and entrepreneurs will not only boost the local economy but also promote self-reliance and empower the people of Lam.
During the event Commanding Officer of Rashtriya Rifles Ramakrishna, Kartar Singh ADC Nowshera, Rafi Giri ASP Nowshera, Satyendra Maurya DFO Nowshera , Zaheer Abbas Jafari SDPO Nowshera, Basant Singh and Bachittar Singh- Freedom Fighters, Narender Kour Sarpanch Qila Darhal, Parvinder Kour Sarpanch Lam, Hony Capt Satpal Sarpanch Laroka, Shoukat- Sarpanch Pukharni, Sabinder Singh president of Gurudwara Committee were also present to grace the occasion.
