JAMMU, Feb 8: Lambardars and Chowkidars today staged a protest against the J&K administration for taking arbitrary decision of appointing new candidates on posts of Lambardars and Chowkidars without waiting for the decision of High Court, where the matter is still pending.
Scores of Lambardars and Chowkidars drawn from different parts of the Union Territory assembled near Press Club here and held protest demonstration under the aegis of All J&K Lambardar Association.
Raising slogans against the Administration, the protesting Lambardars and Chowkidars said that by issuing SRO 412 in the year 2017, the J&K Government fixed the age limit for service of Lambardars and Chowkidars as 60 years, which the Association challenged in the court of law as under Rule 16 of Lambardar Act 1980, the Lambardars can serve till their death.
They said the case is in the High Court of J&K and the next hearing is in March but without waiting for the court decision, the J&K Administration is hell bent to dismiss all the serving Lambardars and Chowkidars and making new appointments for which the concerned Deputy Commissioners and Tehsildars are asking people to apply for these posts.
The protesting Lambardars and Chowkidars took strong exception to this arbitrary decision of the J&K Government, which they said is against settled norms. Questioning the removal and replacement of Lambardars and Chowkidars in a most clandestine manner, they asked the Government to stop this arbitrary process and take the stake holders and villagers into confidence as per norms.
