Sir,
This refers to article titled ‘Time to repeal 84 year Land Law’ by Dr Raja Muzaffar Daily Excelsior Jammu July 24th 2018 . The demand of the author is very much genuine. From last several months Interstate Transmission line is being laid in our area by Power Grid Corporation of India through some private firms. The firms are not providing adequate compensation to the affected farmers whose apple and pear orchards plus agriculture land is getting affected. The company is providing Rs 3000 to Rs 5000 for apple, pear and walnut trees which are more than 20 to 50 years of age respectively.
This is the rate fixed more than 30 years back by Horticulture Department of J&K . Similarly compensation paid for land used for tower construction is also very meager. J&K Govt must enact a new land acquisition law as the present law is very old and obsolete. I appeal Governor Mr N N Vohra and his advisers especially Khurshid Ganai to accept the fact that J&K Land Acquisition Act 1934 is not doing justice with people of state. New law is need of the hour. People from Kathua to Kupwara are suffering. The Government must come to their rescue by passing an Ordinance on Land Acquisition Act
