The Land Bondry Agreement between India and Bangladesh which was recently passed by Parliament with voice vote is a step in right direction towards promoting peace in the sub-continent.
The Agreement brings to fore the fact that India wants friendly relations with all its neighbours and does not want to play a hegemonic role in the region. The settlement of this issue at this time would be seen as a gesture of Modi Government’s goodwill, and the ties between India and Bangladesh will improve considerably. It will also create huge economic opportunities for both Bangladesh and the border states of India,
Besides, it will set an example of friendly relations between the countries in the region. Pakistan should learn a lesson or two from this agreement. There are many issues pending between India and Pakistan. These issues too can be settled peacefully and there is no reason for Pakistan to use terrorism as a policy to achieve its objectives.
