Land dispute leads to murder of retd ASI

POONCH, Aug 14: A retired Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) was killed in a group clash over some land dispute in Surankote area of district Poonch today.
Official sources said that incident took at village Baira, in Faizlabad area of Surankote tehsil. The two rival parties over some old land dispute and cutting of trees on this disputed land, got engaged into verbal spat.
Amidst scuffle and physical assaults on each other, the members of both the families started pelting stones and took out lathis to attack each other. During fierce clash, a stone hit the head of retired ASI, Mohd Sadiq (65), son of Mir Mohd, resident of Baira, causing a serious injury.
He fell down and started bleeding profusely. The family members rushed him to Sub District Hospital, Surankote, where doctors declared him as `brought dead’.
After coming to know about the death, the members of the other family went underground, fearing massive attack from the other side.
The police party from Surankote rushed to the area after coming to know about the incident. Some cops were deployed there to defuse the tense situation.
The body of the deceased (retired ASI) was later handed over to the family after postmortem. The police has registered a case FIR No. 197/2024 against the accused party.
“The police parties were conducting raids at various places to arrest them,” a police official said.
