RAMBAN, June 23: People of Khani and Peerah areas here are living in fear due to landslide and land sinking which is going on in the area for the last few days.
Sources informed that few days back landslide took place in south portal of newly constructed Peerah Kunfer Tunnel which forced the authorities to close down tube of the Tunnel.
Villages Khani and Peerah are situated above the road along Jammu-Srinagar Highway.
Locals informed that cracks are appearing on the slopes due to which they have sleepless nights.
“If land sinking activity increase it will damage our houses and agricultural land,” they feared.
A local Pardeep Singh claimed that landslide and land sinking started due to unscientific earth cutting done by contractor companies of NHAI few years back as no retaining walls were erected on the slopes.
“Due to their (contractors/companies) negligence land has started sinking in the area,” he maintained.
The locals have appealed to the LG Manoj Sinha to intervene and direct NHAI and other concerned authorities to take preventive measures without any delay.
