Large number of fake voters in Delhi: AAP complains to EC

Aam Aadmi Party today claimed that there are a large number of “fake” voters in Delhi and alleged that it was result of collusion among local level officers, against whom it sought exemplary action.
Holding that free and fair polls would not be possible if such discrepancies are not dealt with, AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal today met Chief Election Commissioner VS Sampath and Delhi’s Chief Electoral Officer Chandra Bhushan Kumar to press for the removal of anomalies in the voters’ list for Delhi.
Charging that collusion among local level officers was a factor in this regard, the former Delhi chief minister demanded “strong” and exemplary action against them.
“Large no. Of fake voters in Delhi. Some local level officials colluding. EC assured strong action wud (sic) be taken against such officials,” Kejriwal said in a tweet.
“We did our check and found that some 3,96,914 voters have more than one card against their name, totalling 11,50,509 voter cards. We have compared the names, father’s/ husband’s names and age. These three fields match in all cases. Then we compared some photos randomly.
“We discovered that the photos are also matching in a number of cases. We are attaching such cases as examples. Photos have to be compared manually and we did not have the manpower to compare photos in all these cases. Therefore, we would treat these as suspected cases,” Kejriwal said in a letter to Delhi CEO.
He also submitted three CDs to the poll body which were said to contain details about the irregularities.
At a news conference today, Kejriwal said his party had also compared the voters’ list of Delhi with those in neighbouring Haryana and Uttar Pradesh and found several discrepancies there as well.
“We found 14,71,025 voters in Delhi’s list, whose names, father’s/husband’s names and age match with the names in Haryana’s list. In case of Uttar Pradesh, we found 12,53,779 voters in Delhi’s list. We have also given the CD to EC and said free and fair elections would not be possible in such a case.
“We all know that just before an election, people from the neighbouring states are brought in to cast their votes,” he claimed.
Suspecting foul play by Booth Level Officers (BLOs), Kejriwal also called for action against those among them who are found to have facilitated the discrepancies.
“So, there is some conspiracy and the BLOs could be involved in it and are working in collusion with some political party. We have demanded strict and exemplary action against them,” Kejriwal said.
“In Delhi, the discrepancies are such that we found one
person with more than three cards on a single booth and in another instance, one person with three-four voter ID cards in one constituency,” said AAP volunteer Ankit Lal.
“The maximum number of voters using single picture that we found during our exercise to find #Delhifakevoters is 114,” Lal tweeted.
Saying that over 1.5 lakh people have registered as fresh voters in Delhi, the party said EC should put up their details on a website for verification.
“There are several cases of exclusion of people from the voters list. In Matiala constituency, some people’s names have disappeared from the list. Names which have been deleted should also be restored.
“In all cases, either an individual could be involved or some political party is messing with the voters’ list,” Kejriwal said. (AGENCIES)
