KATHUA, Dec 19: The last rites of six asphyxiation victims were performed at Purmandal on the bank of Devika in Samba district today by their relatives and family members.
Earlier the dead bodies of the six people including two children were handed over to the relatives by the authorities after conducting autopsy and other legal formalities at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Kathua. A large number of people including wailing and sobbing relatives accompanied the funeral procession.

Those who visited the residence of the victims included former BJP president, Ravinder Raina, party MLA from Kathua, Dr Bharat Bushan, MLA Jasrota, Rajiv Jasrotia and MLA Hiranagar, Vijay Sharma besides other party leaders. They expressed profound grief and shock over the tragedy.
Ravinder Raina, while terming it a grave tragedy expressed total sympathy of the party with bereaved family. He also appealed the Government for ex-gratia to bereaved family.
Later all the six bodies were taken to Purmandal where their last rites were performed as per dharmic rituals.
It may be recalled that all six members suffocated to death as mysterious fire erupts in their residential house at Shiva Nagar Kathua in the wee hours yesterday. Besides, four other inmates of the house were injured. The injured were given treatment at GMCH Kathua and their condition is stable.
