PUNE, Dec 13: Addressing during the first Madhav Godbole Memorial Lecture organized by Sarhad here, Khurshid Ahmed Ganai, former Principal Secretary to ex-CM of J&K and former adviser to Governor J&K said India has the best constitution and solutions to most of J&K issues lie in the constitution if implemented properly.
Ganai said that Late Madhav Godbole, (who was a former Union Home Secretary and wrote 25 books on governance and public policy since taking voluntary retirement in 1993 after the demolition of Babri Masjid) was passionate about good governance.
He spoke about Godbole’s vision of governance, with specific reference to his book, Good Governance – Never on India’s Radar (Rupa Publication, 2014) and reflected on his own experiences during his career in J&K.
Speaking about Kashmir, Ganai said there had been very positive developments in J&K since 2019, mainly because of digitalisation and e-Governance.
Suraj Mandhare, Education Commissioner, Maharashtra, said Madhav Godbole had been a guiding light for new entrants into the administrative service. Sanjay Nahar, Founder-President of Sarhad made the introductory remarks.
Sujata Godbole was the chief guest at the event. Thanking the organisers, Meera Godbole-Krishnamurthy said, “Through efforts such as this Sarhad lecture, we hope that the intellectual integrity and honest, non-political thinking that defined my father’s life will continue to inspire and guide those who share his belief in the imperatives of secularism and good governance.”
Also in attendance, were Former Vice Air Marshal Bhushan Gokhale, Yuwaraj Shah of the Arham Foundation and Dr. Shailesh Pagaria.
Sarhad Trustee Shailesh Wadekar gave the vote of thanks.
