Born on May 20, 1975, in Kunnattoor Village, Kollam District, Kerala, Vijayan Kutty joined the BRO in 1995 as a Pioneer.
Over the years, he worked his way up to become an Operator Equipment Machinery (OEM) in 2005.
He served in various remote and challenging locations, including the Northern, Eastern, and Western Commands, and also in Bhutan as part of Project Dantak.
In June 2024, while working with a JCB Wheel Loader on the Reasi-Arnas-Mahore road in Jammu and Kashmir, Vijayan Kutty was involved in a tragic incident.
While working on the approach to Khurd Bridge, the wheel loader suddenly went out of control and rolled towards a deep valley.

Vijayan Kutty’s bravery and selflessness in the face of danger, as well as his devotion to duty, earned him the Shaurya Chakra.
